Using MiniDisc (MD) is utterly unlike recording your music on tape, where you can't resequence tracks, trim the start and the end points, fix mistakes, or take out radio commercials without rerecording the entire thing. Editing on tape? Forget it! Unlike tape, MD is nonlinear, and that opens up a whole new world of possibilities. For the first time, MD enables you to move, divide, and combine tracks. A-B Erase lets you delete outtakes and commercials. You can add titles to discs and tracks. And when you're done, you have your own mix.

Combining both disc and memory card capability, the Marantz BD7004 Universal Blu-ray Disc Player reads virtually every popular disc format available today: Blu-ray (both commercial releases and recordable discs), DVDs (movies and DVD-R/RWs), as well as standard and recordable CDs. It also includes Secure Digital (SD and SDHC) memory card reader, and the player can also handle DivX and AVCHD video files.

The Marantz BD7004 is compatible with Blu-ray discs as well as both DVD and CD media plus DivX and AVCHD video files (see larger image).

It includes an HDMI output plus audio connections for 7.1-channel surround sound (see larger image).

The BD7004 features an advanced Anchor Bay video processor--part of the company's Video Reference Series--which combines exclusive circuits like Progressive ReProcessing (PReP), Precision Video Scaling, Precision Deinterlacing, RightRate, AutoCUE-C, Precision AV LipSync, Fine Detail & Edge Enhancement, and Mosquito Noise Reduction. Audio capabilities include internal decoding for both Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio.

With the embedded BD Live Profile 2.0 specification, you can access additional content from the Internet when connected via the Ethernet networking port.

The sleek 3.5-inch contoured front panel combines both aluminum and reinforced resin composite to dampen resonance and blend with virtually any decor. A second metal plate reinforces the player's top cover for increased vibration control, and the centrally located disc mechanism places the critical disc-laser interface in the middle of the chassis to minimize the kind of artifacts that could impact both audio and video quality.

Controlling the BD7004 is easy with the included handheld remote control and a rear panel RS-232 jack that can be used with optional advanced touch-screen control systems.

Apex made a strong name for itself in the DVD arena based on kitchen-sink features and rock-bottom prices, and the AD-1600 is clearly a child of this philosophy. Apart from its appealing price, the player handles almost every disc type out there, from DVD-Video to CD, MP3-CD and WMA-CD to HDCD, and even JPEG image and Kodak Picture CDs. The unit also comes with a remote control, an owner's manual, a stereo analog audio/composite-video interconnect, and two AA batteries.

Video Features
The AD-1600 offers something unique to Apex players: support for both NTSC (North American) and PAL (European) video formats, so long as the region encoding allows (discs must be encoded for Region 1 or all regions). A screen saver keeps paused images from burning into a television, and parental controls help keep young eyes off mature discs. Picture zoom lets you focus on scenes in greater detail, and the unit's fluorescent video display is snazzy and easy to read.

Audio Features
The AD-1600 is compatible with standard CDs, audio CD-Rs and CD-RWs, and discs encoded with MP3 and WMA (Windows Media) audio files. It even decodes HDCD (High-Definition Compatible Digital), a 20-bit system used on many commercial CDs to deliver better sound than is possible through standard CDs.

Connections
The back panel offers one set of left/right analog-audio outputs for compatibility with stereo Dolby Pro Logic receivers and stereo televisions. This unit also supports both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel formats through a single coaxial digital-audio output for direct connection to a surround-decoding AV receiver. The back panel offers one output for S-video and two standard composite-video outputs, so you can channel one output into a different room. The AD-1600 DVD video player is a player for digital video disks conforming to the universal DVD video standard. With it, you will be able to enjoy full-length movies with true cinema picture quality, and multichannel sound. Unique features of this compact player include an S-video output, selecting of sound track and subtitle languages and of different camera angles (depending on the disk). What's more, Parental Control lets you decide which disks your children can watch. Your player supports audio CD's, and the new MP3, WMA, JPEG format and Kodak PCD.
